The key to the congress's success - an advisory body of top experts and chairpersons

The members of the advisory board and the chairpersons are active in many prestigious functions within their fields. Prof. Wetz and Prof. Greitemann, for example, are additional chairpersons of the Association of Technical Orthopaedics (VTO), a section of the German Society of Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery (DGOOC).

ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK has for decades been the most important event in the world of orthopaedic engineering and orthopaedic footwear technology. In 2008 it will make even greater efforts to reach out to other members of the rehabilitation team and will thus make possible for the first time an inter-disciplinary exchange between technicians, retailers and wholesalers, doctors, physiotherapists and sports scientists around the globe. As an institute concerned with sport for rehabilitation, sports therapy and adapted physical activity within the Faculty of Sports Sciences at the University of Leipzig, we very much welcome this step. It is no longer possible to think of a range of measures for getting patients mobile without the inclusion of preventive and rehabilitative sports programmes for people affected by chronic disease, orthopaedic, neurological or psychiatric illnesses. We are delighted to be able to present the most recent results of our work and to get from our international colleagues findings and information which will enable even better collaboration between us.

""The congress at ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK 2008 has enormous national and international importance for phlebological societies. It offers the opportunity for intensive discussions, not only between individual specialist medical associations, but also with manufacturers and suppliers of medical aids in our field. This platform is especially important for phlebology in particular, since modern technology, with new materials and products makes possible progress in the provision of, for instance, medical compression stockings; such products, on the other
hand, must be tested in respect of their medical efficacy. At the end of the day, they must reach the patient. In this respect, specialist medical suppliers, as well as doctors, also have particular responsibility."

Gerd Richter
German Association of Physiotherapy, ZVK, Cologne

""Patients will, in future, come to expect inter-disciplinary cooperation across specialist boundaries as a matter of course. In sport too, and in research in health and prevention, those with and without disabilities will expect team-work in care provision from physiotherapists and therapists generally. The growing challenges of the future can only be met as a result of inter-disciplinary collaboration across specialist boundaries. The German Association of Physiotherapy, ZVK, with its international experience, is promoting and supporting moves in this direction. As far as the Association is concerned, it is self-evident that physiotherapy is a team effort. From this point of view in particular, the ZVK wishes the international trade fair and world congress in May 2008 every possible success."

"The ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK in Leipzig with the international congress and the trade fair has earned an excellent name for itself in the branch. The strength of the event lies in the simultaneous presentation of products, services and the acquisition of knowledge all around the topic of technical rehabilitation. State-of-the-art technology and science allow surgeries, clinics and technical orthopaedic workshops to offer a service to our patients in the sense of a rehabilitation team. Trade fair and congress thus follow the best tradition of progress of technical orthopaedics and the cooperation between medicine, industry and the specialized companies in orthopaedic footwear technology and orthopaedic technology. The achieved interdisciplinary mixture and internationality of the exhibitors, lecturers and participants stand for the claim of being the most important meeting point and focus of the branch.

Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Horstmann

""The World Congress at ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK will bring together various specialist disciplines (orthopaedic technology, orthopaedic footwear technology, sports medicine, neurology, physiotherapy and biomechanics) so that inclusive discussions and an interdisciplinary
overview of problem areas and research fields become possible. Because of the complexity of the problems and/or research issues, it is absolutely vital these days to work on them in an interdisciplinary team. And the ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK congress offers an exemplary way of making this possible for individual specialist disciplines. In addition, there will be a dialogue between the rather more practically oriented areas and the theoretical ones, which will significantly broaden horizons for the individual disciplines."
