| Abstract: | Professional education for prosthetists/orthotists and orthopaedic shoe technicians continues to be defined and developed. Prosthetists, orthotists and orthopaedic shoe technicians all need to gain knowledge, skills and understanding of their disciplines through academic study aligned with practical clinical and technical experiences. There are a number of challenges in delivering quality managed educational programmes for these professions in a tough economic climate, especially in providing sufficient content in the fields of engineering and health to ensure that competent, safe practitioners emerge as graduates. This presentation will explore global trends in professional education from the perspective of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics and consider the way that these professions might continue to develop. |
