In W-Europe about 80% of all lower limb amputations (LLA) are caused by vascular pathology. The majority of people is over 65 years of age. In de period 1982-2006 there are major changes in amputation level and age cohorts. There is a decrease in amputation incidence in the more elderly population.

The aim of the study was to find out how many people after amputation return to work. A questionnaire was sent to all (400) patients visiting the outpatient clinic. We received 230 filled-in questionnaires. Ninety-three (40.4%, 80.9% of those working before amputation) worked after amputation.
